One month and one day after the NVIDIA 169.07 display driver was released, the Santa Clara folks have released a minor driver update for Linux and Solaris. No new features have been introduced, but just a couple of bug fixes.
The NVIDIA 169.09 display driver addresses the notorious 100% fan speed bug for the GeForce 8 series that was introduced in the previous driver release. In addition, the 169.09 release fixes a bug where the driver would crash if the X.Org GLX extension module was loaded. Furthermore, a core transfer type bug was fixed in the Linux/i2c algorithm driver.
In recent NVIDIA binary driver releases, we have seen changes pertaining to mobile/notebook customers, and the 169.09 release continues with two notebook-related fixes. This release improves the driver's awareness of the current notebook docking status and fixes the brightness control for HP Compaq notebooks.
For the Solaris 169.09 release, there are only two changes and that is for the fan-speed bug and the GLX extension module crashing. As of yet there is no 169.09 update available for FreeBSD customers. The Linux driver updates can be downloaded from NVIDIA's website for x86 and x86_64 customers.
